You know those days when you realize you have completely forgotten to squeeze in your own family for a session in the middle of busy season? When Grandma is wondering when she’ll see the traditional yearly capture of her grandkids, it’s November already, and the color in the foliage is so faded it’s actually non-existent? How about those days when you think it’ll work out just fine to get the kids ready for a photo shoot after school, drive half an hour, and still catch the light…..but then you realize Daylight Savings Time just ended and that means the sun goes down IN LIKE TEN MINUTES?!
Yes, it was exactly one of those days when we hurried off to find a tiny pocket of light, hoping to capture this moment in their lives before time raced on again. And you know what? I’m glad we did!
I’m always glad when I can look back and see these days, the hectic stress falls away and I remember these smiles and see how quickly they’re changing, growing, creeping closer to the day when they won’t make my laundry pile higher or leave socks out in the dirt, when there won’t be so many meals to fix or dinner plates to wash. Capture these moments while you can! You won’t regret it.

Brooke is the third graduate in her family to come to me for their senior portraits. I’m so incredibly honored by their family’s continued support of me, especially considering that they drive all the way up to Grayling from downstate! Brooke’s session was the first at our new location and it was on a beautiful fall day, perfect for the various places we have right at our fingertips. The boardwalk with it’s close canopy of cedars, the swinging bridge, the fall grass at the lakeshore, and, of course, the gorgeous golds and reds of the tamaracks and maples in October.
Congratulations to Brooke – a 2017 graduate! We wish you the very best as you leap into your next adventure! Thank you for letting me be a part of this special moment in your life!

Tori wanted her senior pictures to be taken around Torch Lake where her family spends time every summer! We met up in Rapid City on a beautiful October day, when the autumn color was at its finest, yet still warm enough to brave the Torch Lake waters for a few fun sunset images. Tori has such an amazing smile, a spirit that just shines through to everyone around her! We had a fantastic time getting these images, I’m so glad she wanted her senior pictures up north and came all the way from downstate to let me be part of the process. Go Class of 2017~ Best of Luck on the next adventure!

I love orchard blossom time! There is no better spring moment than when you can walk through an orchard in full bloom, each aisle becoming its very own “White Way of Delight”! Every tree “bestarred with its tufts of blossom”.
I think orchard blossom sessions became my very favorite the moment this family stepped in front of my camera last May! This session was crazy and fun as we wrangled the little ones for a few good shots, but I love how they all turned out. Even the ones where little sis is trying to bite big bro for blowing all of her dandelion fuzz before she got the chance! Ha! I love this family and we are blessed to be part of their lives!

Every little girl DREAMS of being a princess! Vibrant dreams of ballgowns and tiaras, twirling around and around in beautiful flights of fancy.
What better way to make a little bit of that dream come true than by renting a gorgeous gown for a 9th birthday photo shoot! Elayna chose this blue dress by fancy frock-maker Dollcake and we rented it from Rainey’s Closet. She couldn’t WAIT for the dress to arriveand twirled around with a huge grin when she was finally able to put it on!
Her May birthday lines up perfectly with cherry blossom time when the Grand Traverse Bay region is frothy with orchards blooming all around! It’s the perfect setting for a birthday portrait straight from her best dreams.
Make a wish, Birthday Girl!
Just at sunset, we went down the hill to a field of beautiful yellow flowers (her favorite color!) where she was especially happy to spend a few minutes.
This girl is on fire! 😀

A mother/daughter glamour session – what a wonderful gift for any mom and daughter!
These days are so fleeting, so precious!
Working with Carrie and Kaylee was amazing. I loved watching their interaction with each other. It was sweet and saucy, a genuine friendship with honesty that is refreshing!
They came in to my in-home studio, had their hair and makeup done, for a full 3 hours of feeling pampered and beautiful! Here are a few of the favorites from their session.

Sweet Baby D! Such a beautiful baby girl, growing so very fast! It seems like she was just coming in with her parents for her newborn pictures, and then just moments later for her first birthday.
Now we’re coming up on her second birthday and she is a proud big sis to a new baby brother!
Thank you for letting me capture these precious moments!
Her crocodile tear just KILLS me.
There is nothing sweeter than the simplicity of a baby in a white onesie!!
WHAT is this nasty stuff?! The cake smash was definitely NOT her favorite thing! 😉

2016 is swiftly winding to a close, and yet here I am still catching up on 2015 sessions and images!
Today I’m sharing a few of my girls last fall, when we had these gorgeous sister sets from Rainey’s Closet rented for fall family pictures. I love how sweet they all looked in these coordinating sets that were pulled together by the owner, Erica. It was such an easy process to rent the gorgeous clothes and accessories and I hope to do more styled sessions for children in the future! What little girl doesn’t want to be a princess for a day?! My girls absolutely love dressing up with layers of lace and tulle for birthday pictures.
Are you setting goals for 2017 yet? I know I’ve been writing down my lists of goals for about a week now, looking forward to seeing progress as we begin a new year!
I have goal lists for my personal life and for my business.
Personal goals include reading lists and activity plans with the kids, daily habits for better health and relationships, achieving things that I’ve been saying I want to do “someday”, that sort of thing.
Business goals include finishing specific educational courses and learning new skills, creating inspiration boards, take a marketing class, achieve certain benchmarks in both sessions booked and sales so that growth can continue in an upward pattern.
I’ll be honest, though! I’m not good at setting goals and I tend to set the bar low enough that I’m assured of clearing it with ease.
What AM I good at? Procrastinating on those low goals until the very last minute. Yikes!
So here’s to a higher aim, more focus, and less procrastinating in 2017! We can DO this!!
So what are your goals for this New Year, and how do you make sure you stay on track? Any tips and tricks that really help you maintain that focus?
Whatever the plans you have – I hope you have a wonderful New Year’s Celebration and enter 2017 with hope and cheer and a sense of good purpose!

Because when it’s almost 60 degrees in the middle of December, you just have to get out there and have fun in your Christmas jammies!
Have I ever mentioned how much we love Hanna Andersson pajamas? We love the fit, the softness, and the quality that makes it possible to hand down well-loved pjs through these three sisters. 😉
And if I’m being honest, Emma is already wearing the jammies that Joshua was wearing in these images. Because red and green stripes are for EVERYONE in the month of December!
It’s not just my blog that I’m behind on! I finally had some of these adorable pictures printed and framed for my own mantle. Usually I stick to a fall-themed assortment of pictures because I LOVE me some October goodness! But this year when I was decorating for Christmas I decided it was time to switch it up and print my favorite holiday memories, and I’m so glad I did. What’s better than being reminded of the wonder and joy of your children during the holiday season?!
Print your memories. Look back on the good times. Embrace the fleeting moments.
Those are the things you won’t regret.
Merry Christmas, Everyone!

Snow!! We completely lucked out on this wintry scene on the day of this mini session! The snow didn’t last long and we spent the rest of the month of December hoping (in vain) for a White Christmas.
Well, at least we had these images for the H. Family’s Christmas Cards, right?!
I’m so glad they brought their sweet little fur-baby for these images, it’s always a lot of fun to get to know the furriest members of the family. And it’s important to capture them in family portraits, too!
Thank you for braving the cold for a few minutes on this wintry day last December!
