Sweet, incredibly talented, kind-hearted Nicole. This girl is simply amazing! Her kindness and joy just bubble out to everyone around her! Her laugh is infectious and she has this way of putting people at ease, listening with patience, caring intensely about the people around her.
I met her about 5 months before we got together in the studio for this session, and I think we could have laughed and talked and kept shooting all day -we had so much fun! She is such an inspiring person, so beautiful inside and out. My life has been blessed by knowing her!
Not only is her beauty stunning and her heart full of kindness, she’s also incredibly talented at creating delicious, healthy, plant-based food. I’m not even kidding, her food is AMAZING!! An entrepreneur who has started a pop-up restaurant service in the Detroit metro area, she has a passion for sharing a message of health and restoration. Go check out her website to see when the next pop-up date will be!

A mother/daughter glamour session – what a wonderful gift for any mom and daughter!
These days are so fleeting, so precious!
Working with Carrie and Kaylee was amazing. I loved watching their interaction with each other. It was sweet and saucy, a genuine friendship with honesty that is refreshing!
They came in to my in-home studio, had their hair and makeup done, for a full 3 hours of feeling pampered and beautiful! Here are a few of the favorites from their session.

Looking back a few years to July 2013 to my session with Kristen! This was just a few short months after I’d discovered the incredible talent of Sue Bryce and had begun to learn the techniques behind her wildly successful Glamour Portrait business. What drew me to Sue Bryce was hardly her business sense, though. It was her amazing ability to connect with all women, of all backgrounds, body shapes, and insecurities, and in the space of a few hours reveal to them their own beauty….and capture it in an image that would remind them, over and over, what it means to embrace it. Embody it. Live it.
Kristen was gracious enough to be one of the first practice sessions as I began the learning process! She suffers from adult acne which makes it difficult at times for her to see past to the beauty within. During the time we spent together, I was amazed by the easy way she connected with the camera, and thrilled to see the intensity and confidence shining bright through her eyes and her body language. It was a great experience for me, and I was happy to have Kristen write this wonderful review of her side of the experience!
“When I first heard “glamour shoot” I instantly thought of the horrible circa 1990s glamour pictures you would get done at the mall. I was hesitant. However with talking to Lisa and seeing her passion and excitement for her photography, I knew for certain this was not going to be pictures you get from the mall. From the moment I sat in the makeup chair, I felt at ease. As a mother of two, I do not get many opportunities to put on makeup and an outfit that I feel sexy in. Lisa and her makeup artist, Raini, not only exuded confidence in their abilities to make me feel beautiful but also exuded kindness in making me feel at home. Lisa’s goal of the day was to capture a shot that I could reflect on and see that I am beautiful! It is not very often that you come across a photographer that is equally as thrilled as you to see the outcome of the shoot. Lisa’s excitement throughout the whole session created fire within me. For those couple of hours I was a supermodel and I liked it! Lisa’s passion for photography is clearly evident in her work. I was shocked at how many photographs she came back with at the reveal. Each one was stunning and beyond my wildest expectations. The photos made me embrace what was already there; my beauty. The whole experience is something that I will cherish forever. I not only walked away from this shoot with breathtaking photographs but with more confidence about the person I am inside and out.” ~Kristen
Thank you for the wonderful review, Kristen!

One of the many resources I have been grateful to utilize in my photography journey is the Focused Photographers Forum. They are an amazing group of talented photographers willing to share their time and knowledge to other photographers as we all learn and grow together. Photography is, for so many of us, a life-long passion for further education, greater understanding of the craft, and pushing toward accomplishment of a vision that is our own, traveling the sometimes difficult path to get that vision from our brains to the back of the camera or the front of the computer screen. Joining forces with other talented photographers, such as those on Focused Photographers, makes traveling that path easier….and way more fun!!
The Traveling Red Dress Challenge: A certain Red Dress was purchased and sent to each of a dozen or so participants around the country (and 1 in Canada!). We were to keep the dress for a maximum of 5 days before sending it on to the next person on the list. Everyone had the same dress to work with, but of course, each of us had our own struggles with how to use the dress, finding the right (petite) model to fit into the dress, coordinate tight schedules and make our own unique vision come to life! All in all, the project took a few months to complete, beginning in mid January and just finished up the first week of May. I received the dress in mid March and was able to pull in my Hair and Makeup artist, Raini Jenkins, as well as my model Mary Williams, get us all together, shoot these images while the weather cooperated (some in the snow!), and mail the dress within my allotted time frame. Whew! 😉
At the time of publishing this post, I have yet to see ANY of the images taken by the other participants! I am SO excited to finally see the finished work of everyone in the group! We were asked to share our 1-2 favorites, and these are mine! I couldn’t decide between the color and black and white edit on the outdoor shot, so I am sharing both. Hope you enjoy following along our blog circle to see all of the other fabulous images shared today on our big RED: A Traveling Dress Adventure Reveal!
I enjoyed this so very much, and I want to say “Thank you!” to each of the other photographers who participated with me and a special “THANKS!” to Beth Russell (Photos by ejrussel) for doing all of the leg work and organization for this project and for sending each of us little gifts to make our challenge shooting and editing just a little bit sweeter!
Please head over to Cheri’s blog HERE to check out her take on the RED: A Traveling Dress Adventure Project! This is a blog circle! Ever heard of it? A blog circle links from one blog to the next in a complete circle. Click on the linked up blog on each post until you find you way all the way back to me! Although there were a dozen or so of us participating, not all photographers have a blog, so the circle won’t be terrible big or take up a great deal of your time. Comments are awesome! Thank you for taking a look!

I’ve known Kristen for several years and I have to admit, I was not expecting her glamour session to be….so….HOT. She has this smoldering understated sexiness that felt like it was unveiled for the first time while we went through this series. It was amazing. The outer transformation was incredibly fun, but the intense connection she made with the camera can only come from the woman inside!

There is something incredible about watching the transformation of a woman from what she feels she looks like into the woman she IS down at the depths of her soul, without fear, without judging herself, without the insecurities that hound us all. When she connects with that inner strength the result is this feeling of having been witness to a rebirth. It’s beautiful. It’s incredible. And I feel so blessed when I get to be a part of that!
YOU are beautiful, Joanna.

I am absolutely spoiled as a photographer when I can capture such natural beauty as is found in these three. What a gorgeous mother & daughters trio!
